Abiy traveled to Naqamtee last year and sent a message that he was openly harming the people by abandoning any development plan in Western Oromia due to the war his regime is waging against the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Abiy traveled to Naqamtee to inaugurate the ‘Bread Factory’ with his wife, Mrs. Zinash Tayacho. This travel was planned to deceive the people and seek their acceptance. 500 people from each of the four districts of Wallaggaa were ordered to rally for the arrival of Abiy Ahmed in Naqamtee town.
On May 6, 2024, local administrative units in the city were warned to be watchful on security issues. Accordingly, citizens report that security checks accompanied by searches and beatings of the public are being carried out against the residents of Naqamtee city.
Some residents who spoke to ONM confidentially state that residents should not be beaten to welcome someone. Safety and peace, some say, have precedence over the so-called “development.”
The local PP operatives known locally as “Cabines” have been making the preparations to receive their leader under the guidance of the Vice President of the PP, Mr. Awwal Abdi.
The progress of the preparations was being reported to Abiy Ahmed and Shimelis Abdisa, the leader of the Oromia Regional Government. In short, a coordinated and orchestrated effort has been underway to show as if the public received Abiy voluntarily. PP operatives were trying so hard to paint the OLA as an enemy of peace while showcasing PP peaceful and lavishing praise on Abiy.
Abiy arrived in Naqamtee under heavy security by blocking all roads until he returned from the stadium where he spoke and left.
