Two Ethiopian Defense Forces Soldiers Defect to OLA in West Shaggar

ONM-ABO – March 18, 2025

On March 15, 2025, two members of the Ethiopian Defense Forces (EDF) from Metta Wal-Qixxee district of West Shaggar defected to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), according to reports from the area.

The defectors left their Prosperity Party (PP) camp, bringing with them:

Upon their arrival, the former EDF soldiers were warmly received by the OLA forces and expressed deep remorse for their past actions, acknowledging the oppression and bloodshed they had unknowingly served. They apologized to the Oromo people and vowed to stand with OLA in the fight for Oromia’s freedom.

The fascist PP regime, which has long oppressed the people of the empire through brute force, has been using coercion and threats to recruit and deploy young soldiers against their will. However, these two individuals, like many others before them, rejected the regime’s crimes and chose instead to join the resistance.

The OLA continues to be a refuge for those who seek justice, dignity, and freedom from the Prosperity Party’s tyranny.
