Lifting of the 2nd Phase of Market Strike and Transportation Blockade (Statement from the Oromo Liberation Youth Movement)

The Market Strike and Transportation Blockade declared in Oromia since Sunday, January 28, 2024 has entered its fifth day today. Our people have been playing a key role in the implementation of the People’s Resistance Declaration by closing shops, demonstrating, parking vehicles and restricting their movement.

Because of this, the impact of this declaration on the repressive regime of the PP has reached the point of cutting off the internet connection in Naqamtee, a testament to the true strength and resistance of our community. The PP faction was terrified of the people’s protests and arrested many from youth groups, drivers and businessmen everywhere in Oromia.

We, as the Oromo Liberation Youth Movement Committee, are very grateful to our people for making the Market Strike and Traffic Blockade Declaration a success. From this round, additional gaps and weaknesses of the system have been identified. The success of implementation of the declaration is encouraging and we would also like to thank members of other communities who heard the call and implemented it.

The curfew will be lifted from 6:00 pm today, February 2, 2024. The community will be able to resume normal activities and back to their jobs from tomorrow morning.

The following are no longer prohibited by the Market Strike and Transportation Blockade decree;

 Marketplace
 Shops
 Restaurants
 Public offices
 Banking
 School
 The roads within Oromia and roads to Finfinnee are open

 Goods can be delivered from Finfinnee to Oromia.

The following restrictions continue to apply until further notice:
 Cattle, Grain, Sheep, Goats, Poultry cannot be transported from Oromia to the capital of Oromia, Finfinnee.
 The OLYM committee strongly urges owners to refrain from increasing the price of transportation to the public under the guise of this decree.

The people’s resistance against the oppressive regime will continue until it uproots the regime and ensures People’s freedom and independence.

Victory to the Oromo oppressed People!
