State-Sanctioned Terror: Mass Killings, Rape, and Arbitrary Arrests of Oromo Civilians Escalate in Oromia

ONM-ABO – March 15, 2025

The Ethiopian regime, under Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party (PP), has intensified its brutal crackdown on Oromo civilians, carrying out extrajudicial killings, mass arrests, systematic sexual violence, and destruction of homes across Oromia. Recent atrocities in East Shaggar and West Bale regions highlight the regime’s relentless war on the Oromo people.

  1. PP Forces Execute Teenage Girl After Repeated Rape in Boosat District, East Shaggar

On March 13, 2025, 18-year-old Burtukee Guddata was executed by PP troops in Araarsoo and Beerroo villages of Boosat district, East Shaggar. According to local sources, the Bilxiginnaa regime soldiers had repeatedly raped Burtukee while she was in detention before finally killing her in cold blood.

This horrific crime exemplifies the systematic use of sexual violence as a weapon of war against Oromo women, who continue to be targeted, abused, and silenced under Ethiopia’s oppressive regime.

  1. PP Regime Destroys Homes and Arrests Families in Agarfa District, West Bale

The PP’s reign of terror extends beyond East Shaggar, with its forces now targeting entire families in Agarfa district, West Bale region. On March 8, 2025, soldiers demolished a family’s home in Shannakkaa village and arrested the entire household for no other reason than their Oromo identity. The detained family members include:

  1. Abdi Ibrahim Kalil,
  2. Maybe Ibrahim Kalil,
  3. Saddam Ibrahim Kalil,
  4. Iskandar Ibrahim Kalil

Similarly, in Heero village, a man named Abduraman Qasim was arrested on false charges of supporting the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) and is now being held in Gannale district without due process.

Betrayal of Oromo Civilians by the PP Regime

Ironically, just months ago, the local PP administration in Bale gifted Abiy Ahmed a horse, declaring him a “peace ambassador”. Yet, under his leadership, Oromo civilians face mass imprisonment, destruction of property, sexual violence, and summary executions.

The escalation of atrocities in Oromia demonstrates that Abiy Ahmed’s government has abandoned any pretense of justice or democracy, replacing governance with a regime of terror. Oromo civilians continue to resist, but without urgent international intervention, the suffering will only deepen.
