Mass Arrests and Torture Escalate in West and East Arsi Districts

ONM-ABO – May 13-15, 2025 – The PP regime has intensified its crackdown on civilians in West and East Arsi districts, with widespread arrests, torture, and extortion reported in multiple villages, residents disclosed to ONM.

On May 10, 2025, in Soqee Booqichaa village of Jajuu district, PP forces arrested and tortured several residents without cause. Those detained include Badriya Gammachu, Jamal Haji Galatti, Bashir Kaboo, Bamboo Tareeda, Abdurbassixi Tuna, Nuguse Hussein, Tola Tufa, Fayyee Bamboo, and the father of Eda’oo.

On the same day, a 14-year-old boy named Kumaa Bariisoo and his brother were also apprehended in the town while attempting to deliver a message to their parents, sources said.

Meanwhile, in Baraka village of Shanan Dhuuggoo district, PP forces continued to extort and brutalize civilians. On May 11, 2025, Mr. Mohammed Xawwil, Mr. Jamal Sule, and Mr. Shamsaddin Abrashoo were arrested and forced to pay Rs 2,000 each before being released. Villagers reported that the men were severely beaten and injured.

Local residents have expressed fear and frustration over the arbitrary arrests and torture, stating that PP militias routinely detain and harass people without charges, leaving families in anguish.

PP Forces Accused of Prolonged Torture in Harooressa Qalboo Village

ONM-ABO – May 15, 2025 – Residents of Harooressa Qalboo village in Oromia are enduring prolonged torture and detention without charges, reportedly inflicted by PP regime soldiers, ONM has learned.

According to sources, at least ten individuals have been detained and subjected to severe abuse for over a year in locations such as Aaluutoo, Jeelaa Alitoo, O’itu, Basaqu, and Harooressa Qalboo. The detainees, many of whom are elderly, include:
