In a harrowing account from the Walloo Zone’s Baatee District, Oromia National Media (ONM) has received credible reports of a teenager’s execution by state officials. Ahimed Muhiddiin, a young resident of the district, was forcibly removed from his home and subsequently killed in public to instill fear on May 6th, 2024. This act of violence is part of a disturbing trend of arbitrary killings, intimidation, and detentions without trial that have become synonymous with the current political regime.
The administration, under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, has been accused of resorting to draconian tactics to solidify its faltering hold on power. The death of Muhiddiin is a stark reminder of the climate of fear that has enveloped the region, where families are left in a constant state of anxiety over the safety of their children amidst such lawlessness.
Further exacerbating the situation, ONM has learned of several individuals currently detained and allegedly subjected to severe torture at the hands of state officials. The detainees, identified as Hide Umar, Abdu Sayyo, Adam Abdu, Ahimed Ibrahim, Said Ibraahim, and Adam Ibrahim, are reportedly enduring inhumane treatment in a local station.
These incidents have cast a shadow over the state officers’ commitment to their sworn duty of maintaining law and order, as they stand accused of engaging in politically motivated persecution.
ONM, with its network of trusted informants, continues to monitor the unfolding events and is dedicated to providing the Oromo community with accurate and unbiased reporting. As the primary source of news for many in Oromia, ONM remains steadfast in its mission to shed light on the truth and advocate for justice and human rights.
