Prosperity Party (PP)-aligned federal forces reportedly carried out a drone strike on civilian areas in Dirree Guddaa village, Giddaa Ayyaanaa District, East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, on April 16, 2026, according to Oromia National Media (ONM) sources.
The strike targeted a residential area and seriously injured four civilians, who are currently receiving treatment at Gidda Hospital in critical condition. The injured were identified as:
- Jabeessaa Shaamil,
- Caalaa Jabeessaa,
- Yaadashee Garbii and
- Sooromee Amanuu
According to the report, the attack also killed numerous livestock and destroyed homes and grain stores, causing significant losses to residents. A similar drone strike was reportedly carried out the same day in Qeelloo town, Eebantuu District, heightening fear among surrounding communities.
The reported attacks on civilians are said to violate multiple domestic and international legal protections, including Articles 15 and 26 of the Ethiopian Constitution; Articles 6 and 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR); Articles 3 and 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR); and Articles 4, 5, and 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).
