A reporter from Oromia revealed that the Ethiopian army terrorized and killed innocent civilians in retaliation after suffering significant losses in a battle against the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
On July 3, 2024, the OLA launched an operation in Qellem Welaga around the National Airport. The OLA killed and wounded many Ethiopian soldiers. In response, the Ethiopian army returned to a nearby village and killed an individual in front of his family.
Similar reports from West Shaggar indicate that the Ethiopian military has committed crimes against humanity, such as destroying property and looting from Oromo civilians. These victims are often targeted because their children are members of the OLA. One such victim is a family member of Jaal Hin-Maquu, an OLA fighter whose family suffered at the hands of the Ethiopian army.
