ONM-ABO – March 18, 2025
The Prosperity Party (PP) militia has escalated its campaign of terror across Oromia, intensifying extrajudicial killings, abductions, and disappearances in multiple regions. From West Arsii to West Wallagga and Benishangul-Gumuz, Abiy Ahmed’s regime continues its systematic assault on innocent Oromo civilians.
- Targeted Killings and Abductions in West Arsii
In Adaabbaa district, West Arsii Zone, Prosperity Party forces ambushed three civilians in Hunxee Aloolaa village on March 16, 2025, as they traveled to market. Without cause, they were forcibly abducted, and later that night, Abduljabbaar Haajii Fattoo, a father of 10 with two wives, was executed in cold blood. His brother, Saadiq Haajii Fattoo, and Maammaa Goduu were also taken but have since disappeared, locals told ONM-ABO.
The extrajudicial execution of Abduljabbaar violates Ethiopia’s Constitution (FDRE) (1995), Article 15, which guarantees the right to life and due process. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) (1993), Article 6, explicitly forbids arbitrary killings, yet PP forces continue their reign of terror with impunity.
The same night, PP forces raided the village again, abducting four more innocent civilians, who were thrown into Adaabbaa town’s jail for torture and mistreatment. Their unlawful detention violates Article 19 of Ethiopia’s Constitution, which ensures detainees’ rights, and Article 423 of the Ethiopian Criminal Code (2004), which criminalizes arbitrary imprisonment. Furthermore, these atrocities contradict Article 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) (1998), which safeguards personal liberty, and Article 2 of the Convention Against Torture (CAT) (1994), which bans all forms of torture.
The Oromo people continue to decry PP’s escalating crimes, as Abiy Ahmed’s genocidal spree leaves families shattered and loved ones missing without a trace.
- Executions in West Wallagga
In Booji Dirmaji district, West Wallagga Zone, Prosperity Party forces gunned down two young men on March 16, 2025, in the town of Amuma Bore. Boona Yazacho Fufa and Jalata Tamana Dheresa were shot dead in cold blood after PP soldiers accused them of having Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) pictures on their phones, local residents reported.
These brutal killings demonstrate the regime’s utter disregard for human life. Under Abiy Ahmed’s dictatorship, Oromia has become a militarized zone, where PP forces arrest, loot, kill, and displace civilians without any legal justification. The right to life is systematically violated, and Oromo civilians live in constant fear of persecution and violence.
- Massacres and Forced Conscription in Benishangul-Gumuz
The genocidal campaign against the Oromo people has also spread to Asoosa, Benishangul-Gumuz Region, where PP forces have intensified the targeted killings of Oromo children. On March 13, 2025, a well-known resident of the town, nicknamed “Balatooli”, was executed with a bullet to the forehead in broad daylight, without any provocation.
Beyond outright killings, PP’s militia is systematically detaining Oromo children, abducting them at various times and forcibly enlisting them in military training camps. The regime falsely accuses these children of being members of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) as a pretext for their arrests, deportations, and forced military service—a direct violation of international child protection laws.
The Oromo people across Ethiopia continue to suffer under Abiy Ahmed’s bloodstained rule, as the Prosperity Party’s fascist forces execute, abduct, torture, and forcibly recruit Oromo civilians with complete impunity. The Oromo nation condemns these atrocities and calls for international action to hold the regime accountable for its ongoing crimes against humanity.
