Ethiopiqn Government Forces Continue Torturing Civilians in West Wallagga

Residents of Lataa Sibuu district in West Wallagga region report escalating military violence against civilians, with at least 21 individuals allegedly detained and tortured by government forces since April 9, 2025.  

Detainee Cases:  

1. Amuuma Giorgis Village (April 9):  

  1. Sannaye Gamma

  3. Iddosa Haile  
  4. Galaana Ummata  
  5. Dasta Galaana  
  6. Koortu Jaal’ata  
  7. Kumee Masgabu  
  8. Daraartu Jira  
  9. Gaddise Dabaloo  
  10. Seenaa Hambisaa  
  11. Eebbisaa Olaana  
  12. Lalistu Badhaasaa  
  13. Jira Guddina  
  14. Tsaggaye Dheeressa  
  15.  Zalaalem Immiruu  
  16.  Bilise Malkaa  

2. Gidda Geeboo Village:

  1. Gudda Garoma  
  2. Zannabeech Gudda  
  3. Tsahaay Gari  
  4. Gizahu Garoma  
  5. Tolasa Hundeessaa  
  6. Sibilu Garoma  
  7. Nuritu Biyyana  

3. Amuuma Alaltu Village:

  1. Taddala Tashoma  
  2. Zalaalem Irran-dhufaa  
  3. Tamima Dabaloo  
  4. Tazarra Baker  
  5. Faqqada Abdisala  
  6. Shummee Eebba  
  7. Bashatu Caalii  

**Military Developments:**  

In a separate incident on April 9, two anti-riot police officers defected to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) in Qilxuu Kaarraa district, bringing:  

  • 2 AKM rifles  
  • 6 magazines  
  • 174 rounds of ammunition  
  • 2 ballistic vests  

The defectors reportedly stated: “We chose to stand with our people rather than serve a regime that oppresses them.”  

Local sources allege:  

  1. Detainees are held at Lataa Sibuu district jail  
  2. Arrests conducted under pretext of targeting OLA supporters  
  3. Systematic torture methods employed against civilians  

 Humanitarian organizations report growing concerns about treatment of detainees in Western Oromia.
