Heavy Weapons, Strategic Panic, and the Liberation Campaign

The Oromo Liberation Army’s strategic offensive, codenamed “Egeree Oromiyaa,” has induced widespread panic within the regional administration, prompting the regime to deploy expensive foreign combat aircraft against civilian infrastructure.

Following the OLA’s successful breaches of multiple district centres and the subsequent liberation of hundreds of political prisoners, PP administrators in Kellem Wollega Zone and Gimbii town have systematically evacuated liquid assets. Secure convoys have been transferring all local bank cash reserves to Naqamte town. In Adama, military commanders have resorted to executing their own retreating militia members to stem a rising tide of battlefield desertions.

Frustrated by ground losses, the federal government has intensified its air campaign. A state drone targeted and demolished a civilian residence in Horofee, Walda Qal’inaa kebele, Dugda district. This follows international media disclosures that the Ethiopian government has recently spent 172.85 million US dollars on Russian and Turkish combat aircraft, including Bayraktar TB2 drones, MiGs, and Yakovlev Yak-130 jets.

In Burraayyuu, within the Sheger City limits, local militias stabbed and killed a transit driver named Darajjee after he refused to pay a bribe. The forces stole 6,000 Birr from his pockets and dumped his body into the Gafarsaa River. Local indicators reveal that Sheger City Mayor Dr Tashoomee Addunyaa and Federal Deputy Police Commissioner Darajee Mul’ataa have institutionalised specialized 120-man paramilitary units operating with absolute legal immunity.

In stark contrast to the state’s destructive campaigns, the OLA has expanded its civil administration. The liberation movement successfully concluded extensive town hall assemblies across Saasiggaa and Diggaa districts in East Wollega, alongside comprehensive civic awareness and socio-political education seminars in Qondaalaa, Lataa Sibuu, and Baabboo Gambeel. These programs aim to unify the populace against state-sponsored resource extraction, counter forced conscription drafts of underaged youth, and establish robust frameworks for regional self-governance.
