Reports from the Arxummaa Fursee District in the Wallo Zone detail indiscriminate shelling by the Fano militia, allegedly supported by regional state authorities. These reports indicate a blatant disregard for international law, with civilian areas being bombarded with heavy weaponry. The shelling, involving mortars and other crude weapons, has instilled terror among residents, compelling them to flee for their lives.
The aftermath of this assault is devastating: homes have been burned, livestock have perished, ecosystems have been depleted, and the livelihoods of civilians have been destroyed. Amidst this chaos, a civilian named Ahmed Abbabaa was reportedly fatally injured.
The Wallo Oromo community finds itself trapped in an ongoing struggle, facing systematic violence from the Amhara regional administration on one side and the threat of the Fano militia on the other. The silence of the government in response to these events has been profoundly felt by the community, who say the Abiy administration—having risen to power through the Qerro revolution—has abandoned them in these dire times.
