In a harrowing incident that unfolded in Hitosa district, West Arsi zone, a teenage Oromo boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds after being forcibly taken from his home by a paramilitary group known as the Koree Nageenyaa squad. The incident sheds light on the ongoing violence in the Oromia region.
The unyielding problems and suffering faced by Oromos show no signs of abating. Villagers are being uprooted from their homes due to ill treatment by security forces, resulting in a staggering increase in internal displacement.
Terror and uncertainty now loom over villages throughout Oromia. Relentless harassment, intimidation, and unwarranted coercion by government-sponsored gangs and murder squads have created an atmosphere of fear. The so-called “murder squad,” also known as Koree Nageenyaa in afaan Oromo, represents an anti-democratic force seeking to impose unitary rule in the country.
Gishaa Fayissaa was the target of the government-backed murder squad. He was shot multiple times, and the assailants left the scene assuming he was dead. This account comes from an anonymous resident who fears retribution or retaliation from the ruling Prosperity Party.
In the aftermath, Gishaa’s family urgently transported their critically injured son to a local hospital. Unfortunately, the hospital is inadequately equipped to handle such severe trauma. As of this report, the teenager’s condition remains critical, with his life hanging in the balance.
