On November 2, 2024, in the Ada’aa Bargaa district of West Shewa, OLA forces launched a targeted assault that resulted in 190 regime soldiers killed, 150 wounded, and 45 taken as prisoners of war.
The operation followed a detailed reconnaissance of the district, focusing on strategic points at Dheebiisaa Hangasaa and Oolankomii. OLA forces seized the regime`s arsenal, including one PKM machine gun, two sniper rifles, 170 AKM assault rifles, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, and advanced radio communication equipment. These offensives are a direct response to the regime’s hastily imposed deadline for a so-called “final offensive” hallucinating about ending the resistance. The breadth and precision of the OLA’s ops continue to underscore our commitment to countering the regime’s intensified aggression.
Among the POWs, one with the rank of Shaleqa (major of a battalion) recounted his journey, sharing how he along with his colleagues were initially taken prisoner during the Tigray war and later released. After thier release, they were forcibly conscripted into the regime’s forces once more—this time, to fight against the OLA. Now held by the OLA, he has expressed a strong willingness to resist the regime’s oppressive tactics, describing his experiences as a cycle of coercion and survival. His story reflects the complex layers of forced allegiance and the growing resentment among soldiers compelled into battles that they do not support. The OLA calls upon the @ICRC and other humanitarian organizations to assist in providing assistance and care for the growing POWs, as the regime has shown complete disregard for their well-being.
