A farmer from East Wallagga has been severely beaten and imprisoned by government forces in what locals describe as an act of political persecution.
Mr Maammoo Gizahuu, a resident of Gambeela Tarree village in Gobbuu Sayyoo district, was arrested on 20 March 2026 by soldiers affiliated with the ruling Prosperity Party (PP), according to sources speaking to Oromia National Media (ONM).
Mr Maammoo was detained without charge on suspicion of “having ties to the OLA” and is reportedly being held without medical treatment for injuries sustained during his arrest. Villagers told ONM that he is unable to walk following the assault.
“He was severely beaten by soldiers deployed by the fascist PP. They grabbed him and took him away. He cannot walk. He has committed no crime to warrant such treatment. He is a loved and respected member of the community. These actions constitute a clear violation of human rights,” a local source said.
The incident has drawn condemnation from community members who accuse the government of deploying operatives across the region to target Oromo civilians.
