A call for a Global Peaceful Demonstration
To: All Oromo Civic and Political Organizations across the World
We are writing to you to ask for your collaboration in bringing our nation’s plight to the attention of the international community on Oct. 14, 2022.
The tyrannical system under which our people are compelled to live, and the unprecedented dire situation of our compatriots has reached a critical point. A “hidden” war and a “hidden” famine are taking their toll on our nation at the present time. However, the war being waged by the Federal government against Oromia for the last four years, and the climate induced drought decimating our people are not being adequately reported to the world.
As the military invasion in Oromia escalates, and FANO (extremist Amhara paramilitary force) aggression and incursions into Oromia get worse by the day. The Federal government is committing atrocities such as burning people’s homes, burning farms, and burning crops. It is killing civilians it suspects of being sympathetic to the Oromo Liberation Army and is displacing large numbers of people. Hundreds of communities have been affected. Thousands have been brutally murdered. Thousands are deprived of everything they had and everything they knew.
Countless people are seeking refuge from the war and the famine: families torn apart, their homes destroyed, human lives lost, childhoods broken, and communities brutally devastated.

Those fleeing war and famine are not receiving adequate shelter, don’t have access to sufficient food, hygiene facilities, or health-care provision. Neither are they kept safe, including from sexual and gender-based violence.

With the free flow of information blocked by the regional and federal governments, and hidden from the attention of the international community, war crimes are being committed against our people. It is imperative that we become a voice for our voiceless people and bring their sufferings to the attention of the world. We must make the voice of our people heard internationally.

To that end, we have designated October 14, 2022, as a “Global Rally Day for Oromia”.

As an Oromo organization, and in collaboration with other Oromo organizations in your city, we call on you to participate in “Global Rally Day for Oromia” by organizing and holding a public rally on Oct. 14, 2022, to ensure the plight of our people is heard across the globe.
