Happy November 9th Anti-Slavery Uprising Memorial Day! (National Oromians Youth Movement Press Release)
November 09 is one of the milestones in the history of the Oromo Liberation Struggle being the time Oromians Students broke out the coordinated insurgency called Anti-Slavery Uprising (ASU). On November 09, 2005, following the call of the then Oromo Liberation Front for a nationwide Anti-Slavery Uprising, Oromians youth began to take up the ASU in an organized manner throughout entire Oromia.
The start of the uprising did not start only then for Oromo People. From the time this people fell under the Ethiopian colonial suppression by the mouth of the gun, the Oromo and all Oromians continued to start revolts and struggles on all sides. November 09, however, was at a time when the then ruling regime of the empire, the EPRDF, had intensified its looting and torture against the Oromo in particular, and Oromians in general.
The political forces of the time, such as the opposition called “ቅኒጅት” party, collaborated with the imperial regime, to suppress the voice of the Oromo people and intended to leave the yoke of slavery bearing on the Oromians.
Following the call of his organization, the OLF, the broad masses, especially the Oromians Youth, launched a continuous uprising. In this Anti-Slavery Uprising, great sacrifices were made and the price is still being paid, although it has changed its form.
On November 5, 2011, Oromians Youth in formed an independent organization, National Oromians Youth Movement (Qeerroo Bilisummaa Oromoo) to turn this lightly organized movement into a cohesive force and a visible movement. After the establishment of the National Oromians Youth Movement , the ASU movement continued to reach the whole of Oromia. On November 12, 2015, the youth changed the name of the uprising from the Anti-Slavery Uprising(ASU) to the End of Slavery Uprising(ESU) to end the struggle in a better and faster manner. The ESU movement was able to eradicate the then EPRDF dictatorship in 2018 despite heavy sacrifices of more than 7,000 armless Oromians Youth and Sacrifices of OLA.
Ever since the alleged false Transformation in this empire, the Oromians Youth, the Oromo Liberation Army and the broader Oromo people have not accepted that the change really exists. Although, The OLF Leaders of the time, after inconclusive agreement with Abiy regime, decided to return to the empire to participate in elections led by the laws of the empire The elders of the Oromo people: the Oromo Liberation Army, the Oromians Youth and the activists of this nation who understood the aggression of the regime agreed to intensify the uprising.
In April 1, 2019, the OLA Press Release announced that it will no longer get command from the then leadership in Finfinnee and formed its own military leadership, OLA High Command, from the Frontline forecasting the complexity of the future of Oromia as long as imperialism and fake Federalism continued. The situation became even worse so far and countless members of the Oromians Youth joined the OLA to wage armed struggle.
On July 2021, conducted its General Assembly and announced on its Press Release on 26th July 2021 that OLF-OLA as an indipendent political Organization, will continue the early OLF cause of 1976, and armed struggle and appointed politico military commanders.
Despite many confusions, the OLA and NOYM have saved themselves and saved the struggle. Following the decision of the organization, the National Oromians Youth Movement has declared that it will be placed under the leadership of the Supreme Commander of the OLF-OLA, on November 08, 2021 and will take its order from the Frontline.
Overall, the uprising so far has been led by the organization and is currently reaching its climax through armed struggle. By this time the PP regime is working hard to submit the Oromians to endless slavery, The NOYM and OLA have declared a joint declaration and launched a revolt movement throughout Oromia.
Road, market and other blockades have been imposed to protest the regime that is using air power to kill our community.
To sum up, on this November 9th anniversary, the NOYM as a struggle organization wants to renew its commitment to pay sacrifice it need to protect and finalize, “The struggle that thousands of our sons have sacrificed to protect it” In addition, while remembering the hard sacrifices paid to fight for the liberation of Oromo and the establishment of Oromia as a country we remind that to deviate from the roadmap and the cause they paid for, is considered a betrayal of the vows of yesterday’s heroes.
We will build a Free Oromo and an Independent Oromia through the struggle of our children!
