It says: Thank you all for the sacrifice made for life to Irreecha in the past!!! Irreecha is a celebration of thanksgiving, reconciliation, peace, and hope for the Oromo people. This celebration, starting from ancient times, involves immersing oneself with one’s family, offering thanks to the Creator, and pledging in general to worship the Creator while fully protecting His creation—a unique time of living in peace with all of His creations. Therefore, Irreecha teaches coexistence with everyone, thinking of others,
reconciliation, justice, and peace.
In the current era, however, it is a celebration that rejoices in word and deed, with today’s generation, in honoring not only the preservation of Oromo culture and identity, but also the right of the Oromo people to be honored in their identity, language, culture, and wealth. Yet, as the Oromo people find themselves in trouble, in exile, in prison, in subjugation, and in various rights violations, this time for Irreecha is not just for supplication but a time to rejoice in hope and courage. At the time of celebrating the sacrifice made for life in the past, by reviewing and remembering what was done, by standing with the oppressed, by helping those in trouble, it calls on us to show our courage in building a peaceful,
free, and justly governed country for the generation to come.
This year’s Irreecha celebration, which makes it uniquely above any other time by raising the question of change for all Ethiopians, including the Oromo question, is the time when the ruling clique, the junta-led force that collaborated to exterminate the life of the Oromo as well as the entire nation’s people, was presented as being buried in the people’s determined struggle.
Therefore, beyond ensuring the life of the Oromo people, as its owners on its soil, to emerge from poverty, to freely choose its own political administration, we extend this call to show its unparalleled courage and strength in order to continue the just struggle that began with all the Ethiopian peoples to strengthen Irreecha as well as other cultures.
