Military Update

Between August 20th and September 23rd, 2022, the Oromo Liberation Army with the support of its people liberated 7 more districts in western Oromia and dismantled key regime military camps in central and southern Oromia. The liberated districts are:
Darimu (Illu Abba Bora)
Haro Limmu (East Walaga)
Limmu Galila (East Walaga)
Mako (Buno Bedele)
Dabo Hana (Buno Bedele)
Chawaka (Buno Bedele)
Babo Gambel (West Walaga)
With the cooperation of existing local officials and the participation of the local community, the Interim Administration Committee has formed governing structures and ensured that public services are not interrupted in these areas. The regime’s forces mounted two failed offensives to retake these areas. The first offensive took place in Haro Limmu on August 29th, 2022, and resulted in 71 regime forces being killed in action. The second offensive took place in Chawaka on September 20th, 2022, and resulted in 235 regime forces killed in action and 10 captured.
In southern Oromia, the regime’s military camps in Malka Soda and Gumi Eldalo were dismantled. The Gumi Eldalo camp was overrun on August 26th, 2022, in an operation that resulted in 81 regime forces being killed in action. The Malka Soda camp was overrun on September 22nd, in an operation that resulted in 94 regime forces being killed in action. In central Oromia, the OLA engaged the regime’s military in several camps in the districts of Ambo and Ifata resulting in 112 regime forces being killed.
In the face of its failures, the regime’s forces have intensified their crackdown on the Oromo people with extrajudicial murders, illegal detentions, torture, and the burning of civilian property reaching unprecedented levels. Such heinous deeds will merely strengthen the Oromo people’s determination to be freed from the Abiy regime’s oppressive domination.
