Government forces in Daroo Labuu district, West Hararghe, have reportedly escalated mass arrests and looting, targeting Oromo civilians under the pretext of counterinsurgency operations.
According to local reports, security forces in Gabbis Aammee and Caffee Haraa villages confiscated 90 cattle, claiming they belonged to the OLA. Victims were allegedly forced to pay large sums of money to reclaim their livestock.
Among those affected was Tofiqo Juneidi, who lost over 50 cattle—three of which were slaughtered and consumed by soldiers. Another resident, Maammad Jaarraa, was reportedly harassed and told he would not recover his livestock unless he paid a hefty ransom.
In Miidhagduu village, government forces shot and wounded a young man, Hussein Kadiro, in the knee, accusing him of supporting the OLA.
Local activists have decried the government’s increasing militarization in Oromia, warning that such actions will only fuel further unrest and deepen the humanitarian crisis.
